Colibrí Terms and Conditions

This is a courtesy translation. If there are differences, the Spanish version prevails.

By using Colibrí you accept these terms. They are written to be read, not to hide behind.

What Colibrí is

An app for learning languages with lessons, exercises, exams, a sound lab for pronunciation, and conversation with an artificial intelligence tutor.

The free plan

The whole course is available on the free plan, with three limits:

Nectar. Writing practice uses nectar: each new exercise in a lesson uses one drop, and a unit exam uses several. The tank refills on its own over time, and also when you review your own mistakes or watch an optional video. Speaking (the “Say it” step and Talk) does not use nectar. The amounts are shown in the app (Today → the nectar drop) and may be adjusted; when they change, the app tells you.
Voice conversation has an allowance: during the first week it is 5 minutes a day, and after that 5 minutes a week (with a seven-day streak, 5 more minutes are added to that week).
Pronunciation scoring has an allowance: each day you can have the AI score the number of takes shown in the app (today, 20), shared among the spoken lesson, phrase practice, the sound lab, the word trainer, tongue twisters, and Words. When they run out, you can keep listening and repeating, without a score, until the next day.

The free plan also includes two “Why?” explanations a day, one question a day to “Ask your tutor,” one phrase from “How a native would say it” at the end of each Talk, the “Your week” summary, and the story of the day, and it shows ads.

Your account

Creating an account is optional. You are responsible for keeping your password safe and for whatever happens in your session. You can delete your account at any time from Profile, using “Delete my account”; deletion is permanent.

The Colibrí Plus subscription

Colibrí Plus removes the nectar limit and extends the conversation with the tutor up to the daily cap shown in the app (today, 30 minutes a day; this is a fair-use cap, not a commercial limit), in lessons of up to 15 minutes. It also extends pronunciation scoring up to a daily fair-use cap shown in the app (today, 150 takes a day). On top of that, it adds a tutor tailored to you (its personality, its pace, how much it corrects you, and its voice), the complete “How a native would say it” after every Talk, “Ask your tutor” (with a daily fair-use cap shown in the app), role-play scenarios, unlimited “Why?” explanations, the entire story library, the full “Your week” report, one streak repair a month, unit downloads, the student dashboard, five experiences in addition to the one everyone gets (Pulse), each with its own typeface, colors, and sounds, and ad-free browsing. If the subscription ends, the app goes back to Pulse and remembers the experience you chose for when you come back.

It is purchased and managed through Google Play, which processes payment under its own terms. There is a monthly plan and an annual plan; the price of each is shown in the app before you buy. It renews automatically each period unless you cancel it in Google Play at least 24 hours before it renews; if you cancel, you keep Plus until the end of the period you have already paid for.

Free trial. If Google Play offers you one, you are not charged for the first few days (seven, unless the offer says otherwise). If you do not cancel before it ends, the subscription begins and the plan you chose is charged. Two days before it ends, the app reminds you (if you have reminders turned on). The trial is limited to one per Google account. During the trial, the conversation with the tutor has a lower daily cap, which is shown in the app.

Prices may change: any change is announced through Google Play before it applies to your renewal.

Gift codes. Colibrí may give away Plus through codes like COLI-7K3M-Q9TX, which are redeemed in the app (in Profile or on the Plus screen). You need a Colibrí account to redeem one. Each code gives Plus for the length of time it states (one, three, or twelve months, or forever) to the account where it is redeemed; if you already had time from another code, the new one is added at the end. Codes are not sold or exchanged for money. Redeeming one does not cancel or pause a Google Play subscription: if you have one, the app tells you before you use up the code. We may deactivate a code so that no one else can redeem it; anyone who has already redeemed it keeps their time.

Content generated by artificial intelligence

Lessons, corrections, stories, the tutor’s conversations, its answers in “Ask your tutor,” and the phrases in “How a native would say it” are generated with artificial intelligence models. We work hard to keep them accurate, but they may contain errors or omissions: Colibrí is a practice tool, not an infallible source or an official language certification service.

If anything the artificial intelligence says or writes strikes you as offensive, false, or out of place, report it from within the app: “Report this lesson” at the end of a Talk (or from your history), “Something’s off” in a lesson or an exam, and the flag on each story. We review every report and use it to correct the content and fine-tune the filters.

Acceptable use

Do not use the app for illegal purposes, to try to breach its security or that of other users, or to automate or resell access to the service. Do not try to get the tutor to generate sexual, violent, hateful, or illegal content: it is built to teach languages and is instructed not to do so. In the weekly league you compete under an alias that other people see next to your points; attempts to manipulate scores may result in removal from the leaderboard.

The free version shows ads served by Google AdMob. Colibrí Plus removes them.

Minimum age

Colibrí is for people 18 years of age or older. The tutor runs on Google’s Gemini API, whose terms do not allow it to be offered to minors: if you are under 18, do not use the app.

Availability and changes

We may update, modify, or discontinue features of the service, and update these terms; significant changes will be announced in the app or on the Google Play listing. The service is provided “as is,” with no guarantee of uninterrupted availability.

Privacy

The processing of your data is governed by the Privacy Policy, available in the app (Profile) and at speakcolibri.com/privacidad.
